Woman Stabbed to Death in Front of Bavet Casino

Cambodia Breaking News (Svay Rieng): On September 30, 2019, at 2:10 pm, a 29-year-old Vietnamese man, Cheng Vechhun, was arrested for stabbing a Vietnamese woman to death in front of Crown Casino in Bavet city, Svay Rieng.

The police reported that the suspect took a knife to stab the woman victim, Chin Thithopheoung, 44 years old. He stabbed her twice and she died immediately at the scene. By-standers were horrified to witness the grisly murder, and the motive of the attack is unknown for the time being.

The body was taken to keep at the Porthmei pagoda. The suspect has been detained in custody at Bavet police station.

Those don't sound like Vietnamese names at all. His name looks Hmong, and her name looks Lao.

Man nabbed over woman’s stabbing murder
Police in Svay Rieng province’s Bavet city on Sunday arrested a Vietnamese loan shark who allegedly killed a countrywoman over a gambling debt in the city.

The murder took place at about 2pm on Sunday in front of the Crown Casino and Hotel in Bavet commune’s Bavet Kandal I village.

Major Bun Sokheang, a provincial penal police officer, yesterday identified the suspect as Chung Nguven Hun, 30, a casino loan shark from Vietnam’s An Giang province.

He identified the victim as Chin Thi Thou Phoeung, 44, from An Giang province.

Maj Sokheang noted that on September 14 the victim borrowed about $86 in Vietnamese dong from the suspect to gamble at a casino in the city.

He said she lost all the money and fled the casino because she could not repay Mr Chung.

Maj Sokheang said that on Sunday, the suspect saw Ms Chin walking alone in front of the Crown Casino and Hotel.

He noted that he stopped her and demanded repayment but she did not have any money and tried to flee.

Maj Sokheang said that the suspect then stabbed her several times with a switchblade, causing her to die on the spot.
