Not me this time, I swear. But a nameless friend got into a bash with a Khmer tonight at the square, and proved a valid reminder why such things should be avoided. We managed to disarm the guy with a cement piece and get said friend out an to a hospital for some stitches before it became life threatening, but 1 on 1 quickly turned into 1 on 6.... then as we stepped in like 4 on 6 but we were mostly trying to put an end to it and get him out.

Later it was a high speed chase through town in my car trying to lose them so we could get him safely to a hospital, followed by a long session with his 'friendly' cop who is sorting it all out. And a bit of me teaching the doctors how to deal with sutures on the scalp...

It's not our country, we ARE the minority, and a fair number of the majority really do resent us for being here and being as privileged as we are here in comparison... and will jump on an opportunity to express that resentment. What I saw in the faces of some of the attackers (people who weren't really even involved until it started and they saw opportunity) was the face of animal rage. Not a good look in the eyes of humans.

yeah more details would be interesting. what started it? was any of the sides drunk? did the khmer show any martial arts moves (curious, cause in thailand that would definitely be a scene from a bruce lee movie )?

Both sides were drunk. The Khmer had previously attacked a friend of the barang over the barang breaking up with his sister. Last night he was drunk and being aggressive to our group, which included the previously attacked guy, some words were had and we all walked off. A while later he showed back up with friends, one of whom attacked barang in question over said words (and a few more).

Upside, I guess, is that the asshat who started it all got it pretty bad himself.

We're all having a sit down with the coppers later today, as they attacked my car as we were driving him to the hospital, then gave chase until I lost them with some serious transporter style driving. We're gonna either get some money out of them, or get a scare on them that they owe us some, according to his cop buddy. Granted, not all of the dents were them (some certainly were) but they're getting credit for all of them.

met her as she came with him to the police today. verdict seems to be that they'll be paying $500/person for the 4 guys directly involved (to my friend) with the police keeping $100/person of that. the amusing part (to me) was when they accused me of trying to run them over in my car (which is true, and i'd already told the cops about it) and the police pointing out that it was because they were chasing us down and trying to attack us in the car.

Holy shit! That's one hell of an update! I'm shocked they had to pay so much! I guess the fact that police get a direct commission helps them get the most for the victim. What a funny system!

one of the options on the table was definitely jail... it was our call. he chose the cash and i'm fine with it... though i'd kinda like to see the punk bastard rot in a cell for a bit. teach him a thing or two about just deciding to jump barangs. his sister is cashed up from a barang she swindled out of some real estate, so the money won't really hurt them much. the little kpop boy sitting in a cambodian jail cell might.
