A MAN is being held by Cambodian police in connection with the murder of an Irishman in Malaysia earlier this year.

The body of IT manager Brian Patrick O'Reilly, 50, was discovered at his luxury condo in Penang, Malaysia on March 4, 2019.
Brian Patrick O'Reilly 50, was killed in Malaysia.
He was found tied up and battered with a wok and had also suffered slash wounds on his neck and stab wounds on his abdomen.

A disturbing note was found next to his bloodied remains which read: “I respect the police and still do but justice sometimes has to be gained.

"I hate you mafia killing scammers. I love my girl and she is dead.”

The suspect, a Belgian national, in his 60s, was lifted in Cambodia at the end of April on an Interpol arrest warrant, after being on the organisation's most wanted list for more than two months.

He's currently being held in a jail in Cambodia while officials look to see how they can extradite him to Malaysia.

It's understood Malaysian cops suspect he is the Caucasian man who answered the door to a property agent looking for O’Reilly around the time of his murder.

He is also suspected of being one of four people spotted on CCTV leaving the condo with the murder victim just prior to his death.

The unidentified Belgian suspect who was arrested in Cambodia is alleged to have murdered an Irishman in Penang in March 2019. The victim was working for a Singapore IT company. The suspect is believed to have fled Malaysia to Cambodia through Thailand.

Backstory:
Tragic Irishman found murdered in Malaysia was killed in an 'act of revenge'
6 March 2019
An Irishman found battered and stabbed to death in Malaysia was killed in an “act of revenge”.

Brian Patrick O’Reilly was tied up, beaten with pots and pans and then knifed with his body tied with a shoe- string and his legs bound with cloth.

A sinister note was found near the victim which read: “I respected the police and still do but justice some- times has to be gained. I hate you mafia killing scamers, I love my girl.”

It was written on a torn page from the popular self help book The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F***.

A source said the man was identified through passports found at the murder scene.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of the incident.

The insider added: “It appears to be an act of revenge.”

George Town police chief Che Zaimani Che Awang said Mr O’Reilly was working for Singapore-based company First Look Marketing.

He revealed the 50-year-old’s body was discovered when a worker in the flat complex came to fix the air conditioning system.

He said: “The property agent had contacted the deceased on Saturday to get the keys from him but to no avail.

"When he failed to reach the deceased, the property agent, along with a representative from the condominium management, had gone to his unit.

“As soon as they knocked on the door a fair-skinned man walked out, informing them the deceased was unwell and to leave him alone and come back later.”

The property manager had tried to contact Mr O’Reilly repeatedly but failed.
He called the victim’s company in Singapore which advised them to get help from a locksmith to enter the apartment.

When they entered the flat they found the Irishman’s body soaked in blood lying in the master bedroom.

Mr Che Zaimani said the surveillance camera in the lobby of the condominium showed four men, one Indian and three Caucasians, including the dead man – entering a lift to his unit on level 12 on Friday evening.

All four left the building several minutes later.

The police chief added: “Early on Saturday, a man had registered himself to go up to the deceased’s unit.

“And around noon the same day a man carrying a suitcase and believed to be the suspect left the building in an Audi.”

The name of the Belgian suspect detained by Cambodian authorities has not been made public, however there is one Belgian man of the right age wanted for murder and culpable homicide in Malaysia on the Interpol Red Notice of Most Wanted international criminals.

For a fugitive wanted by Interpol, Thierry Vanhole is a real social media butterfly. He has Facebook accounts in his name in English and Flemish and also one called Lionflanders where he posts various photos of himself or of some weed.
