Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Poisoned dogs in Kampot

Post by phuketrichard »

This is NOT something i would think will help the tourism business down there.

Posted just now on FB Kampot page

Hello everyone,

As most of you know dogs are being poisoned in Kampot. Two days ago 7 dogs were poisoned in Sovann Sakor village. There are people that are trying to find out who the thieves are.
They are poisoning dogs so they can rob your house and also to take your dog to the dog restaurants to sell. There are many dog restaurants in Kampot and these places are very hard to shut down and almost impossible to stop them.

So please lock your dogs in the house at night time, if you do not want your dog poisoned or your place to be robbed.

If your dog does get poisoned there are a few things you can try and do to help save your dogs life.
1) Charcoal, not what you use to barbeque, these are tablets and you can buy the tablets from any pharmacy.
2) Raw eggs, as many as you can until the dog throws up.
3) Honey and lime, a lot of lime as this usually makes the dog throw up.
All of these can be put down the back of the dogs throat. Open the dogs mouth, push whatever you are using to the back of the throat, close the dogs mouth and hold its nose up in the air and rub the throat of the dog. They will automatically swollow and hopefully this will make the dog throw up and remove the poison.
The dog will not want to eat any of what you are putting in its throat as they have been poisoned, so you have to force it, but obviously in a nice way.
If you can phone a vet but try these things first as a vet may not get to you in time.

If you hear a lot of dogs barking at night they are usually warning you. If you hear howling it may be a female in the area but always good to check both situations. If you see anything or anyone breaking in to a house please try and film the people and place. You can then get the police involved. If you do not have photos or video evidence the police will not get involved.
Please do not write any rude comments or explanations of what could or should be done in this country unless it is helpful.
Thanks.

You can also use hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting in dogs after poisoning.

Sad for the doggies...

I didn't know there were dog restaurants in Kampot and would've assumed they were being transported to Vietnam.

if they were poisoned for meat why were the bodies left in each case?
the count is up to 7 this morning.
perhaps it is a disease like distemper or parvo that kills quickly.
Kampot is a place where rumors start quickly and race through the community with little critical thinking.
