Man Savagely Attacks Wife and Child with an Axe

Kampong Chhnang, Cambodia News: On April 21, 2019, a 41-year-old drunk man, Touch Nhorn, was arrested after hacking his wife to death with an axe and seriously injuring his 9-year-old son, in Angdong Veang village, Boribo district, Kampong Chhnang.

The man attacked his family in a drunken rage. The victims were identified as the wife of the killer, So Thy, 46-years-old, who died at the scene, and Nheb Sokhun, 9-years-old, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
After the incident, the police detained the suspect immediately. He will be charged with murder and attempted murder.

The motive for the attack was jealousy, according to the police.

Col Sovannarith said that according to police investigations, Mr Nhorn on Saturday accused his wife of having an affair with a younger man in the village.

He said the couple argued, during which the suspect threatened to kill Ms Thi and ordered her to confess she was having an affair.

Col Sovannarith said the wife denied the accusation.

He said that about 7.30pm on Sunday, Mr Nhorn returned home drunk after having rice wine with some friends in the village.
Col Sovannarith noted that the wife and three sons, including the nine-year-old, were watching TV in the house.

“The suspect in a drunken rage then grabbed an axe and attacked Ms Thi hacking her at least five times on the head and causing her to die on the spot,” he said. “After killing the wife, he attempted to kill all three sons but two of them fled leaving their youngest brother behind.”

“He then hacked the nine-year- old boy, causing serious injuries, before fleeing the house,” Col Sovannarith added.

He said the two other sons alerted police who went to the house and took the boy to the provincial referral hospital for treatment.

Col Sovannarith noted that the boy was sent to the Kantha Bopha Hospital in Phnom Penh where he is still in serious condition.
