Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia Breaking News (Phnom Penh): On the evening of 1 October 2019, at 8 pm, a drug-addicted man tried to commit suicide by hanging himself in a tree on street 63, Sangkat Tonle Basac, Khan Chamkarmorn, Phnom Penh.
Police were called out after a neighboring man saw the drug addict climb the tree and attempt to hang himself. The police and the locals stopped the man finally at 11 pm, when he climbed down from the tree.

How bizarre.

Cambodia wants to reveal the capabilities of their secret quick reaction military unit on some doped up suicide case?

Surely some hung over cops from the local sangkat could have done the job with a baton and a rusty ladder, no?

The tree must have been in front of some Bong Thom's corruption funded palace.

@Felgerkarb @John Bingham do you recognize this unit? Pretty kitted up with their own tactical vehicle and all the gear and knee-pads and whatnot. Is it akin to SWAT? or are they military?

Royal Gendarmerie, you can see the GRK on the shield.

The only units I know of that have those SWAT style outfits are all army. The BHQ and RGK are the most obvious. BBQ tend to wear black while RGK are more usually navy. Other army units like 9-11 Brigade have modernized but typically wear green or camo outfits.
The police have some hardcore intervention forces like the Justice and Flying Tiger units, but both wear more traditional army style green uniforms rather than that full on 21st century tactical gear.
Anyway, besides all that I'm pretty surprised that they had such an ideal vehicle for picking someone out of a tree.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

The NCTSF wear all black.

This certainly looks like the Counter Terrorism branch of the Gendarmes - dark blue uniforms.

The vehicle is the one used for rapid entry into housing windows.

It's a shame the fire brigade isn't as well supplied. Or the hospitals for that matter.

But I suppose it's all a question of priorities.

Yeah really....but fire brigades and hospitals don't help certain people retain power.....and therefore will never be as well supplied in this wondrous Kingdom.

"They" don't use the hospitals so there is a zero care factor. "THEY" go to China or Singapore.

it's the sad reality and there is much more going on. but as you can see they step in with big material to try prevent any exposure and try to scare off the ones who have similar plans.
Exposure is their worst nightmare and enemy
