Here's a link to the same story in Khmer. I can't read Khmer but my wife is Khmer and she said it was the man's wife who died according to the Khmer story. May need to verify some information here.

That is what I read elsewhere too: the man was sleeping with the children in another room and the woman was on her own in the room after not feeling well.

You may be right. Sometimes the he/she is not clear, and in the photo the body looks like a man (to me anyway. )
Source photo. Warning: Extreme graphic photo of the body:
Spoiler:

However, whether male or female, the person died. The cause was identified as a faulty air-con.

I'm no Fire Marshal, but those burns through her thigh bone and relatively little burn damage around that area and how she is lying there and looks like she never even tried to move, look mighty suspicious to me.

Accelerant + unconscious victim = Hmmm...

No need for the tinfoil hat. With smoke inhalation you can die without even waking up.

No tinfoil hat required to look at the pictorial evidence and draw logical conclusions. Many things happen here in Cambodia that would never happen elsewhere and slip by the PTB.
