Murder Suspected in Chinese Death in Poipet

Poipet, Cambodia: A 33-year-old Chinese man has died a mysterious death in his rented room in Kbal Spean 1 Village, Poipet Town. The victim, Chen Zhizhong, was found dead on the morning of December 26, 2018, with several injuries to his body and face.

Poipet police suspect foul play and have sent the body to Phnom Penh for further analysis. The authorities in Phnom Penh, led by Mr. Gold Chan Piseth, Prosecutor of the Court of First Instance, and Lieutenant General Soe La, Deputy Police Commissioner, are currently investigating the case as a murder.

Update: Later news says that the body of the Chinese man was left at Bali Lei pagoda in the early hours of the morning by a car driven by two Chinese men. The nationality of the suspects remains unconfirmed, but police are looking for a white Mercedes seen in the area that night.

Police inspection of the body found that the victim had a broken neck, bruises on the abdomen measuring 10.30cm, a broken left foot, bruising on the arms and across the thighs, and broken fingers.The police conclusion is that the victim was tortured before he died, and the search for the suspects continues.
