Bavet Crackdown:1273 Illegal Workers Found in One Casino

Bavet, Cambodia News: On December 6th and 7th, 2018, Svay Rieng foreign labor inspectors began a city-wide investigation into the status of foreign workers in Bavet casinos, hotels, guesthouses and other businesses.

Bavet has 12 casinos operating in the town, and at one casino, there were 1273 out of 2554 Chinese workers found to be without valid work documents.

According to immigration police statistics, nearly 20,000 foreigners came to work in Bavet in 2018, with 11015 employment cards issued, meaning more than 8,000 foreigners are doing business illegally.

The Foreign Labor Inspection Team will continue their inspection of foreign workers in the city's casinos until 31 December 2018.

Quite a haul, and must have been known about for some time. Those being protected suddenly found themselves unprotected.

Svay Rieng, Cambodia News: On December 20, 2018, labor inspectors in Svay Rieng province continued their inspection of foreign service workers in Bavet city, visiting restaurants and hairdressers. Eight Chinese and Vietnamese nationals were found working illegally on three premises, six of them were working without a work permit.

Colonel Khun Sasamath said that if foreigners want to work in Cambodia then they must have the correct EB visa and a valid work permit.
