Siem Reap Burglar Busted with 45 Phones

Cambodia News, (Siem Reap): According to the Siem Reap City Police Inspectorate, on December 10, 2022, Siem Reap City Criminal Police, in collaboration with the Administrative Police Force and the People's Defense Force, led by Colonel Da Chamroeun, Siem Reap City Inspector, arrested Chum Bunthorn alias Yorphet, male, 39 years old, uncertain occupation, from Kampong Cham province.

The suspect is accused of theft with aggravating circumstances on December 7, 2022 at 01:50am, at a mobile phone shop burglary in Khnar village, Sangkat In Siem Reap city. A total of 45 mobile phones were stolen, with the brands HOUWEI, SUMSUNG, VIVO, OPPO belonging to the victim named S.K.

The victim was asleep and the burglar escaped, but on December 9, 2022, a villager bought a mobile phone from the suspect and took the purchased phone to the victim's shop, and the victim checked the engine number ( IMEI) and discobered that that it was his phone that had been stolen in the break-in. He reported this to the authorities who questioned the man who bought the phone, and he replied that the phone was bought from the suspect and identified him to police.

Then on December 10, 2022, police found the suspect in Chreav Sangkat and arrested him for questioning. The suspect confessed that he had broken into the victim's mobile phone shop and stolen 45 phones, most of which had already been sold to accomplices in Preah Vihear province.
