Chinese woman sentenced over road death

Interesting case - suspended 2y jail sentence for killing a phone thief by knocking them off their bike whilst in her car.
Begs the question how did a thief grab her phone whilst she was in her car, or how on Earth did she catch up with a motorbike after being on foot, getting in her car & giving chase, etc. So something fishy here, but all the same - usually when a "jao" gets served mob punishment, not a lot usually happens beyond a "he had it coming".

Chinese Women in Lexus Track Down Phone Thieves on Scoopy & Run Them Over

Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: On August 12 at 11 pm, 2 thieves seriously injured after getting ran over by two Chinese women in a Lexus on the street 454/123, Khan Chamkar Morn, Phnom Penh.
According to a boy who was translating from Chinese to Khmer for the women, before the incident, two suspects riding motorbike snatched a phone from one of the Chinese women in the Lexus, which was parking. After the freshy boys stole the phone, the Chinese women drove after the suspects, but they disappeared. As the phone had the GPS, they managed to track the GPS location with another device and found the suspects soon after, still riding around on their cute little Scoopy.
The Chinese driver wasn't playing around, so when they spotted the thieves, she put the pedal to the metal and ran them over, almost killing them. They were knocked off the Scoopy and dropped her stolen phone, which one of the Chinese women retrieved.
The police haven't decided how to handle this case yet and are still investigating. The women were taken to the police station for further questioning.

Few years back I was sitting in a restaurant on the second floor looking down on an intersection when a thief on a moto reached in a car and grabbed a purse. He got struck in traffic and was thus caught on the spot. So I guess it is just as easy to reach in and grab a cell phone.

2 year sentence with her only serving 3 months in prison is a joke. She intentionally drove that car at them with considerable force to hurt them and that's if we believe her story.

In the story here it says
The report said that while she was parking, the accused noticed two men on a motorbike approaching her and suspected they were thieves out to steal phones from her and her friend.
So they didn't actually attempt to steal she just didn't like the look of them so drove her car at them.

She murdered a man and paid little. Even the philippines is more expensive. Sad

I think in the minds of Khmer people, when a mob of khmer beat to death a khmer robber, that's one thing.
When a foreigner runs over and kills a khmer phone thief, that's looked upon entirely differently by khmers.

I stayed at the first version where she get robbed, found the robber and ran over the scooter with her SUV. But finnaly she didn't get robbed, she only suspect them and ran over them anyway.
1 death, 1 seriously injured and only 3 months prison?! Damn!

We don't know how expensive it really was. I was surprised that she actually did some jailtime.

It's only about $2k to kill someone on the road. It's not much.
