Siem Reap, Cambodia News: On October 4, 2018, at 8 am, Mr. Long Sarath, the prosecutor of Siem Reap court, led police officials to confiscate 20 crocodiles to clear a debt of $ 10,360, in Sangkat Chreav, Siem Reap, following the verdict given by the judge of Siem Reap court on March 7, 2018.

The money lender, Oung Yonlean, 37-year-old wife of a Siem Reap police officer, filed the complaint before the court on December 12, 2017, when the debtors agreed to pay back the debt in monthly installments. But, as the promise was not honored, the judge ordered the crocodiles to be seized in lieu of payment.

According to the debtor couple, the crocodiles don't belong to them, but to their mother. The crocodile owner, Teav Saro, said the verdict didn't seem fair because she was not the one who borrowed the money, but she didn't prevent the confiscation.
