Cambodia Rejects Four UN Rights Recommendations

Earlier this year, the rights council made 205 recommendations to Cambodia, which “noted” 38 of them and accepted 163.

The rejected recommendations are a repeal of a criminal defamation code in the press law; ensuring the right to education to children, including Vietnamese; combating discrimination; and doing more to address school dropouts.

So lets address these as a list:

• repeal of a criminal defamation code in the press law
  Of course... that's the ruling party's #1 goto when they get called out on their bullshit. especially now that they've given the opposition a station.

• ensuring the right to education to children, including Vietnamese
  For all the criticism about the CNRP being racist/etc in their words, especially from the CPP... the ruling government repeatedly displays it in their actions.

• combating discrimination
  See above.

• doing more to address school dropouts
  Or just basic truancy. When the malls are full of teenage kids in the middle of the afternoon all decked out in their school clothes something's seriously wrong.

To be fair there's a difference between school dropouts and kids skipping class... Plus, the majority of those kids at the mall aren't even skipping class... The first step would be to have them study a full day instead of the current half days. Not only would they (hopefully) learn more, it would also reduce traffic at lunch time.

Spot on BKL. A lot of folk simply can't afford to pay the extra for a full day of school.
