Probably not much new in this UK news article that we haven't read before but I thought the following was quite interesting:
"Cambodians work at the casinos, but some seeking jobs in venues catering to Chinese customers lose out. “One casino boss asked interviewees if they smoked,” a bartender said. “If they didn’t, they didn’t get the job.”

SHV stopped being "paradise" long before the relatively recent Chinese invasion. How many "the Chinese are ruining Sihanoukville" threads does a forum need?

I personally don't believe the Chinese are ruining SHV, only posted this because I thought it was interesting to read that now they don't hire you here because you don't smoke while it was the other way around in Europe. If you're not interested @xxxxxxx than don't read or click the link. Easy.

What article did you read @bangkokhooker ? Definitely not the one I posted, read it 3 times now trying to find your quote, it's just not in there.

I'm not. It was a horrible when I lived there years before the Chinese came. It might be bad now for other reasons, but I believe the end result will be good. It's just a transition period now.

Lol, WR, that sucks. Now that you've stopped smoking, you can't go work in a Chinese casino ?

The big point about Sihanoukville at the moment is that the Chinese are driving out everyone else, whether you smoke or not. It is destined to be the "New Macau".
For the expats who want to stay in Sihanoukville, you will have to adapt.

I was thinking of starting up a casino in my house called the New New (New) Macau. Don't give up.

Having one unit for rent we recently put a billboard on our wall, it took a few days to find the desired expat without having to pay for a realtor. In the meantime my manager received 10 calls a day (and night) from Chinese pressing us to rent them the all building.
While we might be the exception not to have any plan to kick anyone out, we should definitely hurry up and built the same cheap shit as everyone on our leftover land as 25 to 35% return is the norm and from what I see demand is still on an upward trend.

On a side note we are just back from some Europe holidays and people couldn’t understand or maybe rather wouldn’t believe the situation I was describing them until they read one of these mainstream articles about it. Even then and unsurprisingly most were only interested in the Chinese petty crimes not so much about the sociological and economics aspects of this incredible dynamic.

At some stage it will reach saturation point, it will be interesting to watch then.
