Svay Rieng, Cambodia News: On 07-08 August 2018, Cambodian factory workers in Svay Rieng have gone on strike to protest against working conditions at Sheng Yao Enterprise Co Ltd, a Chinese owned factory that produces lamps and light fittings for companies such as Walmart USA. Walmart Stores Inc is a top importer of the company's products. http://www.datamyne.com/supplier/113079 ... -co-ltd-ma

The workers began their protest when they returned from the (semi)official three days off work for the Cambodian elections, and discovered that they would not be paid for time off. Subsequently, following a decision to stop work, they deposed further requests to improve working conditions in the Chinese owned factory.

Some of the conditions that the workers requested from the Chinese owner were:
1. Do not harass the workers during working hours
2. Do not fire workers with no reason
3. The company must assist with health and medical problems, and the Toilets Must Be Cleaned
4. Reduce the rate of production
5. Money for overtime
6. Company health insurance
7. 2 months probation
8. Allow workers to request a day off for personal reasons
9. Pregnant workers to be able to pass their monthly health check without pay cuts.
10. Workers should receive 48 hours pay when they get fired.
