So he has a small plantation... agrees to not do it again and end of story? F me! In the western world, he would be in prison for a while.

Don't you just love Cambodia legal justice ?!

Gave me a flashback.... as an alternative to taking the bus from PP to Saigon, did a 2 night boat cruise that took us through the Mekong delta about 12 years ago. Was a combination of large boat and small boat through the canals. While on small boat in a canal I was looking at all the farmland and my eye took to what I thought I was seeing. A Canadian guy sitting next to me in the small boat spotted it too and says to me, "Is that what I think it is?"... It would have been a 30 acre paddock of cannabis loaded with head.

You can say what you want about cambodian law enforcement what you want but this is brilliant and lengths ahead of western law enforcement.
Guy was clearly just growing a small batch for himself and at his age there's no way he'd survive prison but fact is the plant is illegal so they're forced to destroy it but as he didn't harm anyone or wasn't out to make a profit they let him off with a warning. All round rational and logical decision :Bravo:

Then again he might be safe because he is too poor to buy tickets to the policemen's ball. Not so sure humanitarian philosophies are appropriate in this case.

But dog forbid they educate anybody on what cutting down forests and decimating wildlife does, as long as we kowtow to the tobacco companies, they pay better.
