UPDATE: There is more to this story that appears, according to the victim, Laura McFadyen, who has reached out to CEO News to get the facts straight. She says it was more than just a robbery, and in fact an actual rape attempt. Here is the story in her own words as told to CEO:

'I was on my way home from dinner with friends and took a motodop. He took me into the countryside despite me asking him (in Khmer) to stop driving.

He then stopped on a countryside road with no lights or people and tried very violently to remove my clothes.

When I fought back with him he pulled out a gun. It has since come to my attention through the police that it was a replica, however, I am sure you can understand, in the pitch black, back end of nowhere, and not being a professional gun analyst that this is completely irrelevant.

The man realized he was getting nowhere with his attempted rape because I continued to fight with him. He then demanded money and when I said I didn't have any he snatched my phone off the ground and then he, as you say 'skedaddled'.

I have just returned from my third day with the police, who to be fair on them, have made surprising progress in a short amount of time. They caught the guy yesterday after me identifying his photo.

He has been arrested numerous times before, the last time in March 2018 for producing fake dollar bills, however, the police informed me that prior to my report, two separate Khmer girls have come to them with the same story and it is highly likely the culprit is the same person.

Thank you for your kind response and I really appreciate the story being correct.

Another important piece of information for me to be clear on is that I love Cambodia and its people and one disgusting piece of vermin rapist could never change my opinion about the kingdom.

Thanks for your time as I appreciate your report on a lot of cases across the country and do so in such a timely manner. I normally really enjoy your website's content.

Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me further.

Kind Regards,

Laura McFadyen

Just an FYI: Laura reached out to CEO and said it was more than just a robbery, and was actually an attempted rape. I have gone ahead and deleted a few posts, as they were made by some of us who originally read that it was just a case of a stolen iPhone, which is what was in the original Khmer news that we posted. I have added this to the original post, but here it is again in her own words. Apologies, Laura, from our news team, but it's what was in the local news, and we appreciate you reaching out to us and we are always quick to make sure stories are as accurate as possible:

dirty bastard lets hope the police do something about this scum, ideally involving two bricks smashed together between his legs and a custodial sentence. Must have been a terrifying experience for the young lady, once you're out of the centre of Battambang there really isn't anything around and very dark at night. Hope she is ok and good on her for not letting this POS cloud her opinion of Cambodia.

Good on Laura McFayden for defending herself. May women in Battambang enjoy safety after the removal of this asshole.

Yes, good for you Laura for getting the agressor locked up, and also, for going public with what really happened. It's not easy to tell a mass of strangers that some creep tried to rape you. And probably not an easy thing to report to Cambodian police either. But seems like they did a good job too. :thumb:
All the best.

Has Cambodia changed in the last, shall we say 10 years?
