looks pretty modern to me not some leftover from the KR era. My guess is stolen from military or brought in from elsewhere, I cant imagine the port in SHV is the best when it comes to security.

Can’t imagine it’s standard military issue. Customized stock, grip, forearm, scope mount and scope, yellow finish? Stolen BBQ gun from the states?

Used to see two army/possibly BGU guys riding around on a moto on 51, guy on the back had one like this, always thought it strange that it had a scope and that it was carried openly, normally covered nowadays

For a start, it is not an AK-47, but a Chinese made Norinco Type 56. Very inferior to the AK-47. They sell for as little as $400 USD in North America. I would think less in Asia.

Thanks, interesting. Is it also 7.62mm?
I don't think the police really care what make/model, tbh, the point is this guy is running around with a semi-auto and lots of ammo at this point in time
1. He can't really claim he needs it for self-defence, he may have tried that with a handgun
2. He's Vietnamese
3. People are a bit jumpy this month for obvious reasons
Unhappy questioning session, extended stay in Prey Sar and repatriation thereafter

Re: 21yo Vietnamese Construction Worker Arrested for Carrying an AK47
Yes. also 7.62, but has a lower firing rate to the AK-47 and also less accuracy and lesser lethal range. They are pone to jamming and over the many years of manufacture of the Type 56, different metal alloys have been used. (a lack of quality control?). A real AK-47 under rapid fire could be immersed in water and come back out accurate in firing after rapid cool down. The Norinco's with lesser quality alloy were prone to twisted and warping of the barrels after rapid cool down. The earlier type 56 used by the communists in the Vietnam war, were prone to warped barrels after rapid cool down and became very inaccurate weapons.

https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50504372/v ... ossession/Col Vutha said the accused was charged with unauthorised holding of a weapon and faces a jail term of six months to three years if convicted. He is now in prison pending trial.
Captain Mao Seng, a military police officer in Bavet city, said on Thursday afternoon at about 2pm, the accused carried a machine gun along with bullets and showed them to his Vietnamese friends who stayed at his rented house.
Cap Seng added that the accused was proud of the machine gun, which he also showed to his Cambodian friends and neighbours, who then reported him to the local military police.
“He was arrested after our provincial military police raided his rented house,” said Cap Seng. “He was arrested carrying the gun.” Cap Seng said that after the arrest, provincial military police seized the gun along with 56 bullets.
