Prince Norodom Ranariddh Injured & His Wife Killed in Fatal Car Crash in Sihanoukville, Cambodia

Phnom Penh: This morning, on 17 June at 9 am, Prince Norodom Ranariddh, Head of Funcinpec party and his wife, Oak Phalla, were in a serious accident, and his wife tragically died in a car accident in Outasek village, Prey Nup district, Sihanoukville. Before the incident, Prince Norodom Ranariddh and his wife had been visiting the Cambodian people in Sihanoukville.
According to Mr. Chun Nareth, chef police in Sihanoukville, the Prince Norodom Ranariddh's car was crashed into by a Highlander car, plate no. PP 2L9667, driving from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh. In the accident, the Cambodian Prince was injured, and his wife was killed, and five people in the other car were injured as well.
Two helicopters were launched immediately: 1 helicopter took the prince from SETE hospital (where he was originally taken to), and the other one went to Sokha Hotel to take the body of Prince's wife to Phnom Penh.
Mr. Nhem Bunchen, a spokesman of Funcinpec Party, said from 9 am to 12 pm, Prince Norodom Ranariddh is better, but still in a serious condition.

the first two (camry) are of a different accident
so looks like the highlander came of worse probably because its been repaired after a right off.the bmw held up well.
i wonder if she was wearing a seatbelt and was in the back with hubby? do the royal family drive?

PHNOM PENH, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prince Norodom Ranariddh, president of Funcinpec Party, got injured, and his wife Ouk Phalla died after their car collided with a taxi in southwestern Preah Sihanouk province on Sunday, a senior police official said.
"The prince's wife passed away at 12:23 p.m. (local time) due to severe injuries," Gen. Chuon Narin, police chief of Preah Sihanouk province, was quoted as saying by Fresh News service provider.
He added that the 74-year-old prince was airlifted to a hospital in Phnom Penh for medical treatment on Sunday afternoon.
The accident took place at 9:00 a.m. local time in Prey Nop district when a taxi traveling in an opposite direction crashed into the prince's car. Five passengers in the taxi were also got wounded.
Funcinpec Party spokesman Nhep Bun Chin told Xinhua that the prince got injured in one of his legs in the accident.

BREAKING NEWS (Update): Prince Ranariddh’s Wife Deceased

Phnom Penh (FN), June 17 - Prince Ranariddh’s wife Ouk Phalla deceased at 12:00 p.m on Sunday due to serious injuries.
She was in the car with Prince Ranariddh when it ran into a collision with a High-Lander taxi of five passengers.
Sihanoukville police chief Choun Narin told that the accident happened at 9:00 on Sunday at Prey Nob district of Sihanoukville province when the prince was on his way to see the supporters in Sihanoukville province, 230 km to the southwest of Phnom Penh.
The Prince was air-lifted to Phnom Penh by helicopter. He is reported to have a broken leg.

There are conflicting reports on where Ouk Phalla passed away.
Mr. Ket Sopheak, Deputy Director of Sihanoukville Traffic Police, said that according to the information he received, Ouk Phalla had passed away after being transported by helicopter with Prince Norodom Ranariddh to the hospital.
Preah Sihanouk Provincial Commissioner Choun Narin could not be reached for comment because no one was answering his phone.
But Sihanoukville governor Yun Min said Mr. Phalla had died while Prince Ranariddh was being transported. [Helicopters arrived in Phnom Penh at 1:15 pm. ]
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Phat Vannak, who is also a well-known social network for Facebook, Knowing that Meng Phalla died at 12:23 am on June 17 at Sihanoukville Referral Hospital. "Choun Narin told me that Ouk Phalla died at Preah Sihanouk province hospital, and then helicopters went to hospitals in Phnom Penh. "
Khmer Times reports that she died in Sihanoukville.
Maj Gen Narin said that Prince Ranariddh’s wife Ouk Phalla died around 12:20 pm in the province’s hospital due to her serious injury.

Ranariddh 'seriously injured', his wife dies in accident in Preah Sihanouk
THE wife of former first prime minister Prince Norodom Ranariddh has died. Ouk Phalla succumbed to injuries sustained in a traffic accident on National Road 4 in Preah Sihanouk’s Prey Nub district this morning.
She and the prince were immediately rushed to the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Hospital. Phalla remained in an unconscious state and was confirmed to have died just after 12:00pm.
Ranariddh was later airlifted from the provincial hospital to the Phnom Penh Hospital in critical condition.
The Toyota Highlander is reportedly at the origin of the accident.
The accident is said to have been caused by a Toyota Highlander which crashed into the prince’s vehicle at precisely 8:50am said local police.
“The Highlander was driving from Preah Sihanouk towards Phnom Penh and when it lost control and steered head on into the prince's BMW, which was travelling in the opposite direction. The Highlander hit the prince’s car at high speed, which caused severe injuries to seven people. Two of them were women. After the accident, the prince and his wife were given emergency treatment at the provincial hospital,” he said.
