only see this solution working with a light rail system, coz too many houses to be displaced otherwise, judging by the budget, maybe it really is a light rail system

They built a new light rail system in my home town Gold Coast Queensland about two years ago. When a light rail has to mix with other cars as well as pedestrians
it becomes the '' bully '' and everything gives way to it or else. Not only is it expensive to run in the terms of salary's, it uses road space so nothing else can use it. Gone are all those parking spaces.

Compare that to Skytrain system which is built on concrete pillars, and the space under it can still be used, the rails can still follow above the road or footpaths or houses and
stations stops can be inside highrise commercial buildings. Add to that , because they are not mixing with other traffic and pedestrians, the skytrains can be fully automated and not need drivers, just a controller back at the base station. With the automatic braking system , one train can follow close behind the one in front. A system now being tested with driverless cars. Skyrail trains are lighter, and also cheaper to build.

light rail system can be skytrain too, looking at the map there are abt 30 stations in that map, they are going to get a rebellion trying to move so many houses for a normal size rail station

That all sounds great in theory, just build giant pillars above the existing buildings, In reality it doesn't work like that, they have to carve out everything underneath and the whole neighborhood gets decimated.

I think "Ambitious" is the diplomatic term.

And as above, you don't just drop it in, the entire route needs to be cleared, and there's little choice but to put wide roads under the whole thing.
I really hope Phnom Penh doesn't follow the usual Asian high-rise, swanky mall, traffic hell, but it seems leadership is bent on exactly that course

Please feel free to suggest alternatives to solve the worsening traffic situation.

They really have no choice but to buy up properties and widen roads further anyway.

Grand projects like this are really not the solution, nor are wider roads actually; Just for a start, the roads are quite wide already, and they would be much more efficient if they learned to use them properly, rather than using them as parking space, wedding venue, or dodgem arena.

Lucky we don't have parking spaces here in Cambodia. Only cars parking on the pavement. So no problem for those car owners.

I know that light rail system, it's rubbish - cheap alternative to a working monorail system.
