Phnom Penh: A Mercedes mechanic drove a US embassy vehicle with diplomatic plates while he was drunk and smashed into a motorbike on May 4 at 8PM, on Mony Rith street, in front of City Club, Sangkat Steung Meanchey1, Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh.

According to the motorbike driver, before the incident he was driving his Honda motorbike with his kids. Then he stopped his motorbike on the side of the street. Suddenly a Land Cruiser drove right into his motorbike and tried to escape. The victim tried to stop the US embassy car from leaving, but the man didn't want to stop and attacked the victim 2 or 3 times.

After the incident, the police car detained the car driver and took him to steung Meanchey police station to sort out the problem.

It sounds like somewhere near the end of the video the reporter say satharn thoot Amerique. But he talks quite fast so not sure.

Is it possible he works for the embassy but just claimed he was a Mercedes mechanic? Why would a Mercedes mechanic be driving an embassy Toyota at night?

Do you ever get replies from the US Embassy on Twitter? Seems they would like to clear it up if he's just a mechanic.
