Phnom Penh: On April 28 at 9 pm, a 32 year old military officer, Den Sovanndeoun, committed suicide by jumping from Chroy Changva bridge, after an argument with his fiancee, in Sankat Chroy Changva, Phnom Penh.


The victim's 30 year old fiancee said that, before the incident there was an argument between herself and the victim while they were driving home from a wedding party. Suddenly on Chroy Changva bridge, the victim stopped the car saying he wanted to pee.

But then, without warning,the victim got out of the car, ran to the side of the bridge and jumped over the railing into the river below. The victim's fiancee was very shocked, she screamed for help, and then she drove the car to ask the police for help. The police contacted a Cham boatman to conduct a river search for the victim's body.

The search lasted all night until the morning of April 29, when the victim's dead body was found at last, so the family could take the body to prepare it for funeral rites.

I suppose they had too much to drink at the wedding (as you do), started to quarrel ( as you do, also, sometimes) , and then... well, it's hard to imagine the rest.

I wonder how the victim's family treat the fiancee in a case like this. Do they blame her, or if she is an official fiancee, is she considered to be his (semi) widow ?
And yes, RIP.
