Would-be Crooner Attacks Wedding Singer with Cleaver
It's wedding season in Cambodia.
Cambodia News,(Tbong Khmum Province): A drunk man, who wanted to sing a slow song with the band at a wedding, became frustrated and tired of waiting for his turn to sing, so he stabbed the band singer with a meat cleaver. The attacker then ran home, and went to bed as if nothing had happened.
The above incident happened on January 7, 2023, at about 7:50 pm at Sorn Em's house in Khnar village, Sralop commune, Tbong Khmum district. Police said that the attacker, 41-year-old Phan Socheat, living in the same village, used a cleaver on Keo Diva, a male singer who sings for the band Srok Sre.
Before the incident, while guests were dancing, Phan Socheat went up on stage, asking to sing a slow song in slow rhythm, but the singer said, "People are dancing and having fun. If you sing a song, no one will dance." Then the man went back to his table to drink again and again and again, waiting for a long time, he became more and more angry. Then the attacker went to where the food was being prepared and grabbed a kitchen knife. When he arrived on stage, he immediately raised his hand to greet the singer and pulled out the cleaver to stab him once through the left shoulder.
The singer, Keo Diva, was seriously injured in the attackand was sent to a nearby private hospital after the incident.
This dramatic event caused panic and confusion among the wedding guests, the band stopped playing, a lot of people left the party, and the police were called.
The deputy inspector said that after the act of violence, the perpetrator ran back to his house, which is about 300 to 400 meters from the wedding house, and went to hide in his bed, pretending not to know anything.
However, immediately after receiving the report, the Tbong Khmum District Police Force, in cooperation with the Administrative Police Force, arrived at the scene and went to arrest Phan Socheat immediately at his home.
Authorities confirmed that in this case, the victim did not sue for compensation, but the suspect has been sent to the provincial prosecutor's office for legal action.

Re: Would-be Crooner Attacks Wedding Singer with Cleaver
After a short pause in the use of cleavers in violent crimes, cleavers seem to be heading back in fashion as the weapon of choice for random outbreaks of drunken violence - with a special mention for wedding parties.
And unfortunately, there is a cleaver in every kitchen in Cambodia.
