Lawsuit specialist, Thy Sovantha, is counter-sued in Facebook defamation case

Businessman charged with defaming Thy Sovantha
A well-known and wealthy businessman has been charged by the municipal court with defamation over Facebook comments he made about former opposition CNRP supporter and current ruling CPP darling Thy Sovantha.
Soeun Monyroath, deputy prosecutor at Phnom Penh Municipal Court, identified the accused as Soksovanvathana Saphung, also known as William Guang, 43, a property businessman living in Prampi Makara district’s Veal Vong commune.
Mr Guang was charged with defamation and incitement to discriminate, and faces up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $1,500 if found guilty.
In response to Ms Sovantha’s lawsuit, on February 2, Mr Guang countersued Ms Sovantha, accusing her of defamation and incitement to discriminate.
Mr Guang said that on January 30, Ms Sovantha, owner of the “Sovantha Thy” Facebook page that has more than 2.2 million likes, seriously insulted him and incited people to discriminate against him.
Mr Guang has also demanded about $125,000 in compensation from Ms Sovantha. Mr Guang said that if he won the lawsuit against Ms Sovantha, he would donate all the money to the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital.
