Once again a would-be bag snatcher on a motorbike gets flung to the ground during a bag-snatching attempt in Phnom Penh. There may be more bag-snatchings than usual at the moment, but there are more and more reports of bag-snatchings gone wrong. This may be because there are a lot of inexperienced thieves about, but also because bag-snatching has become so common that everyone is on the lookout for this type of robbery.

PHNOM PENH - Yet another attempt at bag snatching was thwarted on April 4, 2018, at the corner of 320 , 143 Street, in Boeung Keng Kang III, Khan Chamkar Morn, Phnom Penh.
The woman victim was driving her motorbike home from Kandal Market, when two men on a motorbike drove up and tried to steal her bag. The victim screamed loudly, upsetting the thieves on their motorbike, who then crashed into a car, causing the bag-snatcher on the back to fall to the ground. He immediately raised his arms and surrendered himself to police officers. The woman recovered her bag with no harm done, and the suspect will be charged with theft.

The victim does not look like a "HISO wannabe". This was a lady coming back from doing her shopping at the market. Ordinary Cambodians are targeted all the time, but usually we only hear about the tourists.
As was said on another thread, everyone needs to pay attention to phones and bags, whether walking or a bike or in a tuktuk, particularly at the moment before the Khmer New Year, and particularly in Phnom Penh.

Source ? Most bag snatching reports on CEO involve foreigners because this is an expat forum, but that doesn't mean that most bag snatching incidents involve foreigners. Can you grasp that ?

I suppose you mean Sihanoukville, but you haven't been here for a long time, have you ? Everythings changed - there are very few westerners left to rob. So, obviously most of the victims now are Khmer locals or Chinese workers/tourists.
Same with the traffic cops - I don't know who they are stopping to supplement their income, but there are not enough westerners here for them to make a living anymore. True.
You have been away for so long that your preconceived ideas about SHV are history. Don't confuse now and then. Things change so fast in the KOW that anything from 6 months ago is old news.

Once again, you show your cluelessness. Plenty of my Khmer friends and relatives have been victims of robberies; my wife had her purse stolen this morning.....

And as far as violent robberies go: this rarely happens to foreigners but is a frequent occurrence in the Khmer community.

Khmers, especially the women are definitely the high value targets for these bag snatchers. Foreigners are much lower on the list, and expats dead last. Why so? Khmer ladies are physically smaller, and carry primarily large amounts of cash (more so during KNY to bring home to the provinces). Foreigners are physically bigger, carry less cash, more credit cards, and usually move in couples or groups. And expats? Either too broke or too sly to be easily robbed.

Bruno the neighborhood thug back at home isn’t the typical jaow in KOW. Most of them are about the size of some kid’s back in the west.
