A military officer was charged by Kampong Speu Provincial Court today over an axe attack on his neighbour that occurred after the victim failed to stop revving his motorbike in front of the suspect’s house.
The incident happened on Sunday night at about 11pm in Talak Thmey village in Phnom Srouch district’s O commune.
Muon Sophal, deputy commander of district military police, identified the suspect as Major Morm Bunthoeun, 52, a military officer with Brigade 70 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.
Maj Bunthoeun was charged yesterday with intentional acts of violence with aggravating circumstances and faces up to five years in prison if convicted, according to Mr Sophal. The suspect was arrested on Sunday after the attack.
He added the victim was Buth Thou, 31, a motorbike taxi driver who lived next door to the suspect in Talak Thmey village.
Mr Sophal said that on the night of the violence, the victim revved his motorbike in front of the suspect’s house, making a loud sound and disturbing the neighbours.
