Ratanakkiri: A man was injured when he went hunting a wild boar at 1:35 pm, on March 08, Kreang Village, Kobkeo District, Ratanakkiri. The victim was a 45 year old farmer, named Romeam Peun, belonging to the Tampuan indigenous ethnic minority.
The police said that the man went into the forest with his dog to hunt the wild boar. But suddenly he got ambushed by the wild pig which jumped out to bite him and his dog. He was seriously injured on his shoulder, so his family took him to the hospital, but his dog was already dead.

Boar gets eaten. Man 1- Pig 0. Shame about the dog.
Mr Hul identified the victim as Roman Poeun, 45, a member of the Tompoun tribe.
“He was walking his dog to look for wild animals and set traps. The dog died after being attacked by the wild boar. I got this information from the son who was with his father,” he said.
“When the boar attacked the father, the son jumped in and hacked the boar several times with an axe until it died. Boars will become malicious if they sense a threat to protect themselves just like humans do,” he said.
The boar was given to the family for food because the incident did not occur in a conservation area and because it is customary for the Tompoun people to hunt to support their livelihoods, Mr Hul added.
