"Siem Reap French week has been rocked by news of a 70-year-old sex creep who has been preying on young girls in the tourist town.
The man’s latest victim was a 17-year-old girl who was dancing with her friend in popular Pub St venue Cheers.
It is understood that the man, Jacques Jacquet, encouraged the girl to drink and then started offering her money for sex. It is believed that the girl initially refused but that the man continued offering higher amounts until she conceded.
The girl, who had been in a steady relationship for the 18 months prior lost her partner and job which paid $650 a month, over the incident.
The girl is now working as a sex worker as she had no other income.
Mr Jacquet has continued to pay the girl for sex since the incident and has had the girl stay at his home.
The girl’s family are not aware that she lost her job and that she is now working as a prostitute.
The man had been in a long-time relationship with a Cambodian girl who is said to be devastated by the allegations.
However other well-known Siem Reap sex workers have been linked to the man.
The office of the Ambassador of France in Cambodia, Her Excellency Mrs Eva Nguyen Binh, is aware of the incident and is believed to be investigating.
One person close to the incident said the man had robbed the girl of her future.
“She had a job and a long-term partner one day and the next this monster harassed her into sex with his money and she has lost everything and has been forced to have sex with strangers for money.
“This man has ruined her life. “
Local police interviewed the man yesterday; however senior provincial police are expected to become involved in the case in coming days.
It is believed that Cheers, which has a reputation as sex haven for prostitutes, is also going to be subject to a serious investigation into why it is admitting people under the age of 18 into the venue. The investigation is also expected to cover whether the venue is providing a haven for sex workers.
Another Pub St venue is also believed to be part of the investigation.
Pub St has already undergone a major clean-up this year with the banning of street carts selling alcohol in the street.
This second stage of the clean-up has been prompted by the actions of Mr Jacquet who is said to be well known among the local French community and sex workers."
