Sky train link from Phnom Penh to Morodok Techo stadium planned
4 February 2018

Five years ahead of Cambodia hosting the 2023 SEA Games at the state-of-the-art $157 million Morodok Techo National Sports Complex on the outskirts of the capital, the Public Works and Transport Ministry has included a sky train link between Phnom Penh and the Games' main venue in its expansive plan to build an Automated Transit Gateway System (AGT) in association with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The additional line between Phnom Penh and Prek Phnov, where the stadium is located 18 kilometres away, will add to the four-line project covering various parts of the city for which the JICA is fast approaching the conclusion of its feasibility survey.

The plan links various locations from Charles De Gaulle Boulevard, Preah Moniroth, Street 217, Veng Sreng street towards the Phnom Penh International Airport, and the last line at the intersection of National Road 4 and Kob Srov road.

Does anyone besides the competitors even attend the SEA games? Seems like a big waste of (Japanese) money.

I, for one, would want to go and see all the women’s volleyball matches ;-)

China is HUGE in sports. All sports. They are even playing football. It's not just betting. They love competition. Especially when they win.
They are in to win. Do a search on Chinese wins at the Olympic Games. Chinese gymnasts, swimmers etc are winning more and more medals at international competitions. It's about soft power and nationalism. The state is backing sports big time.
And Cambodia is cheap and close to China - what's not to like ?

Sorry but I thought China is not one of the nations taking part, so I don't see them rushing to watch other countries athletes

Maybe they'll go to watch just so they can boo the rest of Asia.
