Sokha questioned on family’s private lives

- Ky Rithy, Phnom Penh Municipal Court investigating judge, interrogated Sokha for the second time at Trapeang Plong Prison, near the Vietnamese border in Tbong Khmum province.

Lawyer Pheng Heng said the judge asked inappropriate questions about the politician’s family’s private life.

“There was a question asking when his daughter started being involved with a foreigner. And when will she get married? It is their privacy and it is not appropriate … It should not be asked in this case,” he said.

The anonymous Facebook account “Kon Khmer” in August began circulating unsubstantiated conspiracy theories – many of them republished by government mouthpiece Fresh News – featuring photos of the family with foreigners. It also accused Sokha’s daughters, Kem Monovithya and Kem Samathida, of colluding with US spies.

The post said that Monovithya was dating US Embassy official Sam Downing, whom it claimed was a CIA agent, and that Samathida had a “close relationship” with alleged “spy” Geoffrey Cain. Cain, who is actually a successful American freelance journalist, again categorically denied allegations yesterday.
“I’m not a spy. That is a fabricated allegation to build fake evidence against the opposition party,” he said. The allegations against him were among the purported evidence cited in the Supreme Court’s CNRP dissolution hearing.
The investigating judge’s line of questioning, Cain said, “shows the court is desperate to get Kem Sokha convicted”.

I don't know the facts here, but I believe it's a perfectly reasonable line of investigation.

MSM, (especially CNN) has declared itself judge, juror and executioner regarding Trump's family and Russia's 'interference' in the US election, this is innocent by comparison.

I doubt there's a country in the world that would NOT investigate family ties, and the fact that the one guy worked at the embassy, and the other is a journo...come on

The question re their marriage seems a bit weird on its own, but perhaps we should see the previous line of questioning and context

Wait, you're saying that a guy who is in prison for basically saying there should be peaceful reform should have his entire family relationships pulled apart for being subversive? Like in North Korea. Given that his family is high status you wouldn't expect his daughters to be hanging round with plebs, would you? The Trump family run Trump's businesses, and unlike every other president who stepped away from his business interests he still seems to be giving orders and having daily meetings with them to discuss said business interests. Trumps family have also been actively soliciting political information from the Russians and they are in positions of power in the Whitehouse, for reasons that are not due to their qualifications and experience. Kutcher went to Harvard (or Yale, whatever) because his dad donated a few mil, not because that cretin has any sort of intellect or nous. The only parallel between the two so far is everyone's pants are around their ankles.

Of course, a certain leader of a certain country is married to a non-Khmer.

And how reasonable you are to compare the Sokha and Trump families as if they are in the same situation. But of course the Trumps' situation is by far the worst because of CNN.

The election is already over.

Kindly continue paying your taxes, because the business-friendly regime is still in charge overseeing improvements.

Improvements will come, because another rival, jealous, and disruptive group will NOT takeover and issue arrest warrants for those government officials / captains of industry in power today.

Stability will reign, and improvements will improve and the economy will accelerate a bit. Remember, real improvements cost real taxes nowadays, so we don't too many fast improvements all at once. So reign in your expectations and advance slowly.

Expect a huge oversupply of condos and apartments next year in 2018.
Expect 1-3 hydroelectric dams to come online and provide more power, possibly for factories at first, but maybe later to us normal folks as well.
And expect 3rd quarter 2018 to really get the ball rolling!

Already I hear venturous property purchases have taken place. Sharky's and Riverhouse Asian Bistro newly bought? Are they banking on a good election next year, since they can wait out a year if they buy at a depressed price right now?

I think independent investors have already made up their mind and are already investing in Phnom Penh, a good sign.

Sokha has been arrested on trumped up charges .

The judge is probably just being a bitter bitch about seeing a Khmer girl with a barang.
