Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Mr. Eam Kiem said that for more than six years, he has been working from his tuktuk selling shoes made from used car tires in Phnom Penh, mostly along the national road near Pochentong Airport.
Instead of leaving the tires to pollute the environment, the enterprising Mr. Eam Kiem is a creative person who uses these tires to make a variety of footwear, good quality, durable, and affordable.

In one day, he can produce between 30 to 40 pairs of shoes, now that he has a machine to cut tires to make the production process easier and increase the volume. He uses his tuk-tuk to transport shoes for sale every day from one place to another.
He said with a smile that on a good day he could sell more than 30 pairs of shoes, with each pair costing 20,000 riel [5USD], and so earn about 600,000 riel per day[approx. 145USD).Of course, some days are better than others.

Some people look down on this business, but Mr. Eam Kiem is happy with his work because he earns enough to support his family's needs and to allow his children to continue with their studies.

My father-in-law used to make these during the Pol Pot Regime. He described in detail how he did it, and demonstrated by using an old Cornflakes box to make one ( we didn't have any truck tires around). Apparently they last almost forever.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Who is looking down on this? That's some pretty good money for a laborer in Cambodia.

Prob some ultra snotty nouveau middle class bish with a repainted 23 year old prius and 330 on the driveway of her goddawful terraced "borey villa" than she and Heng will be paying off at a retarded interest rate for the next 35 years while double jobbing as a beige suited civil servant and a school administrator tbh

There was an article about the artist, who turns motorbike tires into stunning sculptures (on a way better level like the elephant above) and we have donated him over 100 tires already. However, it is a shame, that no Facebook / Telegram contact address of this shoe guy is available. Should anyone stumble across him, please post this data here (preferable Telegram, since I don't have FB)
Driving on Cambodian roads is just like playing a classic arcade top scroller. The only difference is a force feedback controller, the limitation to only one life and the inability to restart, once Game Over

Mr. Eam Kiem doesn't have a company, he's a sole trader.
