- Twenty-six people died in road accidents during the three-day Pchum Ben holiday this year, according to the Ministry of Interior’s Department of Public Order and traffic police. Police recorded 52 crashes, which injured 90 people and left 63 seriously injured.

The numbers were similar to last year, when the same number of people were killed during a four-day reporting period in 66 accidents. Officials at the time said traffic crashes had dropped by about 20 percent from the year before due to the new Traffic Law implemented in January 2016.

- From September 19 to 21, there were 52 traffic accidents reported by police across the country, resulting in 26 deaths and 90 injuries, 63 of them serious, according to a police report.

“The cases of accidents, including ones resulting in deaths and injuries, increased if compared to the 2016 Pchum Ben, when were 42 traffic cases reported, including the death of 19 people and injuries to 66,” the traffic police report said.

The report said the accidents were caused by drunk driving, speeding and dangerously overtaking vehicles.

“Of the dead, 84 percent were not wearing helmets while on their motorbikes,” the report added.
