And most cases of food poisoning remain unofficial. Who here has not been sick/upset with suspected food or drink poisoning these past 12 months? What, never ?

- At least four people died and more than 900 suffered food or wine poisoning in the first eight months of the year, according to a Health Ministry report.
Speaking at a workshop in Phnom Penh yesterday on measures to prevent the problem, Ly Sovann, director of the Communicable Disease Control Department, said 947 people had become sick and four died in 28 cases of food poisoning and two cases of wine poisoning.

“We treated cases of food poisoning in a timely manner so no one was killed, but four people died due to wine poisoning, because of high levels of methanol in the wine,” he said.

He said the worst offenders in food poisoning cases were Khmer noodles, which made 335 people ill, while 12 people were poisoned by cassava and 11 people suffered blowfish poisoning.
Cases of food and wine poisoning in the first eight months of the year fell compared with 2016, when 1,104 people were affected and 15 died.

Mr Sovann called on people to properly store food, maintain hygiene and avoid using expired foods.
The Communicable Disease Control Department last week issued a reminder to citizens to eat properly cleaned, cooked and stored foods over the Pchum Ben festival to avoid food poisoning.
It warned that wine poisoning could be caused when methanol levels exceeded 0.15 percent...

Keeping your cooked food in the fridge is a good start. Don't just leave it in a cupboard and keep bringing it out until it's gone three days later. Put some soap in the kharsi, maybe wash your hands after having a shit.

Crap, I just had a bowl of Blowfish Noodles with diced Cassava root and washed it down with a liter/litre of Kampot Cuntjuice Cabernet. Feel okay though.

Ministry issues rice wine warning

The Health Ministry has asked people to be careful when purchasing rice wine for Chinese New Year to avoid negative health effects following two deaths and more than ten cases of poisoning from rice wine consumption in 2017.

Chinese New Year takes place next week from February 15 to 17. The communicable disease control department recommended that people buy rice wine that has a clearly marked origin and has been checked by expert officials.

Department director and Health Ministry spokesman Ly Sovann said yesterday that rice wine was still one of the main food and beverages that occasionally caused illness or death.

“Rice wine should be consumed in moderation or completely avoided if possible,” he said.

“Some rice wines are mixed with methanol to make it stronger, but it can affect people’s health, causing illness or even death. People who buy rice wine really need to check it thoroughly.”

Rice wine consumption can affect the liver, kidneys and brain, and in the case of consuming rice wine mixed with methanol, it may cause poisoning, including symptoms such as headaches, vomiting, difficulty breathing, exhaustion and unconsciousness, and can lead to death, according to Mr Sovann.
