Four charged with gang rape and murder
Police have arrested and charged four men for the gang rape and murder of a 24-year-old woman in Preah Sihanouk province.
Officers spent more than three months searching for the suspects after Prack Sothy, who worked in a karaoke bar, was raped and killed on March 13.
The accused include Ms Sothy’s former husband Tean Klonh, 30, and his friends Sao Bora, 32, Phun Sophorn, 30, and Sun Narith, 30. A fifth suspect, Sao Ountouch, is still at-large.
Preah Sihanouk provincial police chief Chuon Narin said the four were arrested on Friday and had been charged with intentional murder.
He said the suspects admitted to drinking in Ms Sothy’s karaoke bar on March 9 and hatching a plan to abduct and rape the victim.
Her former husband masterminded the plot, arranging for the victim to sell him some rice a couple of days later.
Mr Klonh and Mr Bora went to meet the victim, abducted her and then took her to be raped by the group, one by one.
“She tried to shout for help and the suspects tied a towel around her throat. Afterwards they stabbed her all over her body until she died,” Mr Narin said, adding that they wrapped the victim in a blanket and threw her into the forest.
He said officers had been determined to catch the perpetrators.
“This was the result of us doing our best to investigate the crime,” Mr Narin said. “We worked for three months and 24 days to arrest them successfully.”
