More marijuana destroyed in Takeo
7 July 2017
Nearly 15,000 marijuana plants were destroyed in Takeo province’s Kirivong district on Wednesday evening, in the second such crackdown this week.
Kirivong district deputy police chief Yang Dara said the 14,626 marijuana plants were found in 44 locations.

The owners of the plants all evaded arrest.
“We are continuing to crack down against marijuana cultivation because it is illegal. The villagers hide what they are doing by planting it in the forest and mountains,” he said.

Mr Dara said the plants were likely owned by a number of locals.
“We are determined to find the owners of the marijuana and punish them according to the law,” he added.

On Tuesday, another 12,813 marijuana plants were destroyed in the province.

So far this year, 162,321 plants have been seized and destroyed by Takeo police.

More extremely sad news. Are the busts still funded by the DEA?

Legalizing and taxing it would bring in enough revenue that Cambodia would no longer be a third world country. Well, if they spent the money wisely.

You have a point, Vlad. But I wonder if the tabacy companies are going to pony up an additional 200 million in tax revenue. Fuck the tobacco companies!

They don't need to.

They pay off a few guys in some African country, maybe that costs $10 million.

Much less than they would lose if marijuana was legalised.
