I'd really rather not have it keyword flag in search engines and bring more of that drama to this site as well, so removing the article quotes that include his name and details. Now there is an interesting discussion on the deletion over there.

The "System" doesn't work! How about this one involving a court/judge. I had a judge in a case that is a convicted criminal with an outstanding arrest warrant, was convicted for Dangerous Weapons, fled the state to go to law school in another state, was/is a member of the communist party, lied to attend law school, lied to become an attorney and lied to the governor of the state to become a judge. The state Bar Association knows they screwed up, but they are sheltering him from prosecution and he is still a judge. (Its a crime in his state to be an elected official[judge] and be or have been a member of the communist party.

The American judicial system is really screwed up and corrupt to its foundations. I don't consider myself an expat ion Cambodia, I am a judicial refugee from the corrupt Amerikan judicial system and I'm not alone.

Having been in the US system myself, I can say the entire probationary system is a brilliant scam. After 1 round of probation, at the end of which they found a way to violate so they could start it all over again, I told them to get fucked and went the prison/parole route so they couldn't keep "refreshing" my probation.

Curious minds: Forgery and Passing Bad Checks. I was 19, pissed off at my step-dad because my car was broken down and he wouldn't help me to fix it, snagged his checkbook and used it to paid to get it fixed. Something that should have been at worst "in family"... and which he wanted to keep that way once he found out it was me from the cops. But by then the option to "not press charges" had actually been taken out of his hands by a system eager to get everyone possible into it. Screwed up a good 10 years of my life over a family squabble and a stupid youthful reaction.

Good on you for sharing your very personal experience, OD. Glad you had this sorted out.

It is it's own industry, and it needs to feed.

The above story is a non event. I remember the days when people arriving in Cambodia had some serious baggage with them. Now it's so soft that a likeable, if somewhat temperamental chef, with an edgy past makes headline news. Yawn.

Fully agree, this is a non event. Like many of us the guy did some unwise things, the difference is that his stuff became public.

Amusing/tragic part... with my legal fees, which he and mom helped with, it cost WAY more than the car repair bill. The only winner in the situation was the legal system.

I thought under the US legal system you were innocent until proven to be black.
