Fraudulent recruitment agencies target countryside radio listeners

Radio advertisements to recruit migrant workers have come under fire from the Minister of Labour. Many of the agencies who advertise over the radio are fake organisations which are specifically targeting poor credulous workers from the provinces in order to cheat them, according to Mr. Samheng.

The Ministry of Labour has written to the Ministry of Information requesting that it take action against fraudulent recruitment agencies promoting services for migrant workers via radio advertisements.
Minister of Labour Ith Samheng issued the letter on Friday, warning the Information Ministry that some fraudulent recruitment agencies were using the radio ads to cheat would-be migrant workers.
“These advertisements can confuse residents, especially the people who live in the provinces, and subsequently lead to them being cheated by dishonest brokers who use these dirty tricks over the radio,” Mr Samheng said in the letter.

Mr Samheng continued to suggest that Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith “take action” against the fraudulent recruitment agencies – those without a licence from his ministry – buying time slots on radio stations.
