Hornet swarm attacks family, 2yo boy dies from stings
The family of the village chief of Svay Bakav village, Kampong Chhnang province, were seriously injured and a little boy died when a hornets' nest was disturbed.
It is reported that a "palm fruit" - perhaps a coconut ? - fell on the nest while children were playing nearby. This enraged the hornets, who attacked the children.
The wife of the village chief, Sos Nob, 69, who was present at the scene, tried to rescue her grandchildren, but she was also badly stung by hundreds of angry hornets and she is being treated at Calmette Hospital by emergency services.
Five children, aged 11,10,9,6 and 2, were first sent to Kampong Tralach hospital for treatment, but were then sent on to Kantha Botha hospital due to the severity of the stings. The youngest child, aged 2, died from the attack.

"It is reported that a "palm fruit" - perhaps a coconut ? ". Not likely. That is the usual translation given to the fruit of the sugar palm tree (daem tnaut) from which palm sugar (skor tnaut) is made.
In any case granny was a brave woman; she surely knew what she was up against. Hornets unlike bees are capable of multiple stings.

As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.
