Phnom Penh, Cambodia: James Ricketson, an expat from Australia, was arrested on June 3 at a CNRP rally for espionage because he had a drone and was taking pictures, which he planned to use outside of Cambodia.

Flying a drone in Phnom Penh without authorization from the authorities beforehand is illegal in itself.

When police asked for his ID, he refused to give them his passport.

Because this happened so close to elections, he will be sent to court and charged with espionage.

James Ricketson's crazy history in Cambodia:

"James Ricketson has a long history as a serial harasser of individuals, organizations, government departments and officials across the world, including Australia, Cambodia, Thailand and the United Kingdom. In April 2014, he was convicted of blackmail by a Cambodian court and sentenced to imprisonment for two years (suspended)."

He's really creepy, he has been trying to vindicate Fletcher for years while calling Scott Neeson all sorts of unwarranted names. He needs to be kicked out of the kingdom.

So is James Ricketson likely to be the keyboard warriors' Official Whipping Boy for a while,
rather like Richard of the River Queen Guest House in Siem Reap?

Not sure about that but admittedly, that was a rather stupid stunt to pull...

James Ricketson's arrest has made it to the international press:

"Australian filmmaker Ricketson arrested, accused of spying in Cambodia

Bangkok: An Australian filmmaker has been arrested in Phnom Penh and accused of spying, according to Fresh News, an online site close to Cambodia's ruling party.

Photographs show James Ricketson, 68, handcuffed and being questioned by police after being detained on the eve of local elections across the country on Sunday.

I can't help but wonder if the govt. will try to link the espionage charge with the NCRP. Depends on election results I suppose.
