Soldiers held over fatal shooting
Four soldiers were arrested yesterday over a shooting at a forestry administration office in which one man died and three were seriously injured. A woman working as a cook for the soldiers was also detained.

Kampong Chhnang provincial police chief Loch Vannara said that on Tuesday at about 7.30 pm, a group of unidentified men with AK-47 rifles fired ten rounds at military, military police and forestry officers guarding Kraing Skear Forestry Administration office.
Four people were wounded, one of whom died later in hospital.

“After the shooting, the gunmen fled,” Mr Vannara said.
He said the suspects were being questioned by provincial police and military police and declined to comment further.

Seng Vuthy of the military police said there had been a prior conflict between the suspects and the victims.

The dead man was named as forestry administration officer Soeng Hath, who was shot in the chest.

To sum up : A spat between two groups of officials [presumed to have been involved in illegal logging] resulted in one death and three injuries when one group attacked the other.
The chief murder suspect is being held at present by the court, but the provincial military police commander has already declared that he was not involved, despite the fact that his AK47 is a match for the murder weapon. The other suspects in the armed attack have already been released. It seems likely that the suspect will get off with a weapons charge and that no one will be held to account for the murder of forestry administration officer Soeng Hath.

Suspected Over Forestry Shooting, Soldier Charged Over Illegal Gun

A Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) soldier was charged on Monday for unauthorized holding or transporting of a weapon and is a suspect in the fatal shooting of a Forestry Administration officer in Kompong Chhnang province last week, a court official said.
Provincial military police commander Meas Sovann said on Sunday that the soldier had not been involved in the shooting of Sing Hak, 54, who was killed when masked gunmen sprayed bullets through a Forestry Administration office last Tuesday in Toek Phos district’s Kraing Skear commune. Three others were injured.

Four other detained suspects, including two other RCAF soldiers, have already been released from detention because they were not linked to the shooting, according to Mr. Sitha and provincial police chief Loch Sovannara.

The bullet casings found at the scene of the shooting were the same type of ammunition used with an AK-47 and the suspect’s weapon appeared to have been fired recently [police chief Mr. Sovannara said.]

They can find the small things like bullet casings but cannot find the chainsaws, logs , timber or the trucks carrying logs.

Wouldn't forensics show markings on the casing and firing pin matched ?
