PHNOM PENH - A local newspaper reporter and two garment workers went on trial yesterday, accused of murdering a 24-year-old man they argued with at a nightclub in July last year.

The victim Chea Sopheap, who was also a garment worker, was beaten severely before being stabbed with a sword outside a market in Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district on July 3.
Heng Kessaror, presiding judge at Phnom Penh Municipal Court, said the suspects face charges of intentional murder.

They were identified as Soy David, 25, a reporter at Amnach Khmer Newspaper (Khmer Power Newspaper), Chea Dy, 25, and Vuok Thim, 23, both workers at a Chinese garment factory in Por Senchey.

The suspects had been drinking at a club on the night of the murder and got into a row with another group of seven garment workers, Mr Kessaror said.
The men left the nightclub, drove home to pick up weapons, and returned to the nearby market to wait for their targets and attack them as they left the club.
“They stabbed the victim and he later died in hospital,” the judge said...
