Comedian's wife found strangled

The young wife of well known comedian Oeun Sokha was yesterday found dead at her home in Phnom Penh, allegedly strangled by her stepson.
The body of Sim Chanthy, 18, also known as Akar, was found at midday at a condo in Taley village, in Dangkor district.

Ms Chanthy, the second wife of Mr Sokha, best known for his TV role as Mr Honda, is thought to have been strangled by her husband’s eldest son from his first marriage.
“She was strangled with wire and found dead by her father in her bathroom,” said District Police Chief Chim Sitha. “After killing her, the suspect covered her body with a blanket and fled.”
He said CCTV evidence had identified the suspect as 20-year-old A Nich, her husband’s eldest son, who was now on the run with his girlfriend...

The comedian's son and his girlfriend have been arrested for murder. The motive is alleged to be robbery of jewellery and money to buy drugs.

Dangkao commune police chief Chin Sony said on Thursday that “the murder might have been carried out at about midnight [on Wednesday night].” The victim’s family reported the incident to police at about noon on Thursday, Mr. Sony said.

According to the report, police officers identified the suspect, a 20-year-old man identified as “Nich,” after reviewing security footage from the condo.
While no motive has been established, the suspect was seen sharing a room with Sim Chanthy, owned the blanket her body was found in and can be seen fleeing the condo on the video footage, the report says.
