Tourist gets his bag back, but isn't so happy about paying a participation fee. From FB:
I'm in Siem Reap and got mugged the other night quick snatch and grab deal no harm done but passport, all cards and $250 gone. I immediately cancelled my cards!!

***please don't block your cards if they get robbed***

Ask your bank to suspend them instead!! When I went to the tourist police they had my cards wallet and passport ( not money but sure not bad) so basically when you get your back you can deactivate them through your bank and a lot of hassle, money and time saved
The police return a few wallets passports etc per day here. Not because they work tirelessly to protect foreign tourists but because they are part of this organised crime. They ask you for some money to give to the person who handed it in as a thank you. Just another typical scam!

Yep, happened to my wife. She had left her bag in the car to pick me up from the airport. Car was parked near the edge so police were near by. Anyway she knows the police broke into the car and stole it. Then we left they tried to ask me for money, I said they had to ask her, she ignored them and nearly hit them pulling out lol. Anyway she recieved a facebook message from a police officer the next day saying "kids" found her cards i.e. ID card for her, the car and the insurance oh and the Aeon point card lol but the purse and money were no where to be found. So he surprised his wife/gf/KTV-gf with a new purse and some money for a night out.

If Jamie's mum knew where he spends his nights and get his bike stolen, I imagine she would rather head straight to the pub.

And how do you determine what those positions are? Or do you just never go into public places?
