For most people here the Siem Reap milk powder scam is old news, but according to this post from yesterday on social media, it's still going strong, so here's a reminder for the tourists.


Every travel forum on the net has this scam listed, but if you really don't know about it then do a search - there are pages and pages out there.

What a shock! Poor people hustle. Must have been some disgruntled soul from trip advisor.com.

The "shop" in question is the supermarket on the corner of Sok-San Road and Sivutha Blvd, the one 2 floors directly below X-Bar.

When are the yappy feminists, a class well-represented in Siem Reap, going to gird up their loins and make a thoroughly justified fuss about this?

The HUY MENG MINIMART is the name of the establishment in on the scam.

Scams will come to a screeching halt only after the underlying causes of poverty have been eradicated.

There is plenty of scamming in rich countries but the scams seldom involve carrying tiny infants around and whining:

After they've finished licking their wounds from getting caught in the scam.

I agree, but they won't be scamming out of necessity but for the joy of being in the game. The hustles will be entirely different and the motivation will change the players. In a way I'll miss the milk scam. Anything that ruffles the feathers of the old hens on trip advisor.com is worth a laugh.
