Protesters will confront HM, eldest son of Prime Minister HE, when he arrives in Australia today, according to a statement released by the Cambodian-Australian Federation.

The organisers, including a Victorian politician, called on “Victorian Cambodian Australians” and “friends of the community” to confront the scion, a three-star general, outside an event in Clayton South in Melbourne’s east at 6pm.

The group said the celebration to welcome Manet was “insulting” given that they were preparing to observe the 100th day of mourning since the July 10 murder of political analyst Kem Ley.

“Such provocation from this brutal regime, which most Cambodians believe to have been implicated in the cold blood murder of Dr Kem Ley, is unacceptable,” the statement said, adding that demonstrations would also be held in Sydney and Adelaide...

HM, the prime minister’s eldest son and the head of the CPP’s foreign outreach committee, was again met by angry protesters during his latest trip abroad, this time to Melbourne.

Having previously faced protests during a visit to the U.S., protesters in Australia focused their ire on the July murder of political analyst Kem Ley, which many believe was a state-sponsored attack.

About 200 protesters, many wearing black T-shirts emblazoned with Kem Ley’s face and holding banners with slogans, including “Beast Go To Hell,” shouted at Lieutenant General Manet as he entered a restaurant with supporters in Melbourne...

Manet Met by Protests, CPP Livid

Despite denials from the opposition party, the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) intimated yesterday that a protest in Australia against a visit by Prime Minister HE’s son was tacitly organized by the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), again ratcheting up tensions in the political scene after a relative lull in the war of words between both parties.

About 150 demonstrators in Melbourne – led by firebrand Cambodian-Australian politician Hong Lim – protested on Friday in front of a restaurant where HM, Mr. HE’s eldest son and a lieutenant general in the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, was meeting local CPP supporters.

The protesters held banners calling for improved human rights in Cambodia and the release of more information about the death of political analyst Kem Ley. Demonstrators also demanded the government release opposition activists and human rights workers now in prison.

Mr. Manet, in a Facebook post later in the day, said the protests had little effect on him and did not stop him from attending his meeting.
But in a press release sent out the next day, the CPP slammed Mr. Lim, a Cambodian-Australian politician from the state of Victoria, and the protesters with him, saying the group had no right to express opinions about Cambodia and did not represent the “real” voice of Cambodians.

Mr. Lim said the CNRP was not involved in any way in his protest and added that the demonstration against Mr. Manet evolved organically among Cambodians living in Melbourne...

It's not clear whether Mr Lim has voluntarily given up his Cambodian nationality, or has been stripped of it, or whether these are just cross words by the authorities.

CPP Hits Back Against Australian Politician Behind Protests
In a statement released on Saturday, the ruling party said that Mr. Lim, a Cambodian refugee, had no right to comment on the political situation in his birth country.

“This demonstration is a political demonstration because it was led by politician Hong Lim, who has given up his own nationality,” the statement said of protests that met Lieutenant General Manet, the eldest son of Prime Minister HE and head of the CPP’s foreign outreach arm.

CPP spokesman Sok Eysan said on Sunday that Hong Lim had effectively given up his Cambodian citizenship by insulting the ruling party.

“He has insulted his own nation saying that it was a ‘beast.’ It means he has given up his Khmer nationality,” he said, declining to say whether he had technically lost citizenship or just been banned from entering the country...
