Tourism Venues to Be Vetted and Ranked by Government

by Hang Sokunthea | October 3, 2016

The Ministry of Tourism has unveiled a new system to rank the quality of service at restaurants, adult entertainment establishments such as bars and clubs, and event venues such as conference halls, guiding tourists through their stay in Cambodia.

Clubs, karaoke parlors and beer gardens will be packaged into one category, receiving up to three “orchids” on a ministry-assigned certificate. Restaurants will be eligible for up to five stars, while events venues will receive a certificate of recognition, according to a statement from the ministry released on Thursday.

Richard I've just received a secret request by the Minister of Tourism to be a secret shopper at those establishments. Ranking details to be revealed. I start tonight on Vaudevillian Hill.

They wanted to recruit Jamie but much to hi-profile.

Shhh... i'ts a secret.

any chance that the certificate level (1,2,3...A, B, C... etc) will be a function of the 'fee' associated with the inspection process?

looks like a tax to me. Some cities in the US banned smoking in all establishments, then allowed said place to buy an exemption if they wanted too. like bars/pubs/clubs and the like. it really was just another tax for the businesses to pay.

cheers
