A lintel in the dining hall at Wat Moha Montrei pagoda in Phnom Penh collapsed in the early hours of yesterday morning, three days after it cracked and had to be evacuated.
The 57-year-old dining hall was used as a refectory for the monks’ communal meals.
The Venerable Chem Buntheoun, 38, said the lintel crumbled to the ground at 2am yesterday after a heavy thunderstorm.
“The hall, which is 68 meters in length and 25 meters in width, was first built in 1959. It suddenly fell down when it rained very heavily,” he said.
