Syrian Lady in a Burqa Arrested For Stealing $500 From a Shop House Owner in Phnom Penh, Cambodia
CAMBODIA NEWS: A tourist from Syria wearing stylish Islam attire was arrested in Phnom Penh after buying a few packs of cigarettes and then attempting to steal $500 from the shop house owner, according to the victim.
The alleged thief is a 61 year old female tourist from Syria here on a tourist visa. When she was arrested she was wearing a full burqa, showing nothing but a glimpse of her face. Police concluded that she has been staying at a hotel on riverside but could not confirm the name.
Apparently she bought 5 packs of cigarettes and after paying, grabbed five $100 bills from the shop owner who fought over them and called the police. The Syrian lady has been taken to the police station for questioning.

I don't recall ever seeing any women fully covered like that in Cambodia.

Tons of then in Kampot and Kompong Cham now, thanks to the generous donations from Saudi and Malaysia. Still, a Syrian woman in a niqab, that's got to be a first. Did she think no one would be able to spot her in give her disguise? Lol

There are very few. I lived in Tuol Svay Prey for a long time and have a lot of Cham friends, there is a small Mosque down near Mao Tse Tung nearby. It's the only Mosque anywhere south of Boeng Kak / Route 5 or Chruoy Changva. They all look pretty much like anyone else, many are highly-educated, sometimes the women wear a headscarf but that's about it.General Mackevili wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2017 9:44 pmIt's only fair.taabarang wrote:Off with her hand!

I was driving near there with my son who was probably 5 at the time and we saw this woman wearing a niqab:

I've seen plenty around in head scarves, same thing all the non-looney tunes ones wear. Surprised this woman thinks she can escape with that beak poking out the front, not going to blend in with the locals. Although how did she get at a load of hundies? I have a hard time getting change from a fiver out of the local friendly shopkeeper. Even ones with a tin and not a purse clutched close to the hip.
