The victims were identified as Lam Sary, 48-year-old and his wife, Ploeuy Sros, 36-year-old, a couple of farmers. They have a 3 year old son who suffers from paralysis and seizures as a result of polio. So they took their son to a sorcerer to cure their son's disease. The sorcerer at first asked the couple for 3 million Riel, then she requested more money and some gold - 27 million riel, 5,000 baht, and 7 ounces of gold - saying it was to entice the spirits to heal the child, and that she would return the money and the gold when the patient got better.

On January 11, 2019, the victims realized that their son would not get better, so they went to ask the sorcerer for their money and gold back. The sorcerer told them that it wasn't her fault, but the money had got lost, and there was only 1 million riels, 1,100 baht and 100 USD left. So then, the victims filed the complaint with the police.

After receiving the complaint, the police went to arrest the suspect and took her to Somrong Police station for questioning. The suspect confessed that she had scammed the victims, and that she had given the money to her family to pay their debts. The case of the suspect was submitted to Odor Meanchey court following the legal procedure.
