Despite Ban, Opposition to Visit Embassies

by Khuon Narim | September 5, 2016

CNRP lawmakers will this mornĀing push forward with plans to deliver letters to the embassies of signatories of the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements informing them about the deteriorating political climate, they said on Sunday, despite the event being banned.

The opposition on Friday announced the plans for a number of its lawmakers to travel in cars to deliver the letters to diplomatic missions around Phnom Penh, but City Hall spokesman Mean Chanyada said on Sunday that they did not give adequate notice.

Not a lot happening, at 9.15 am. There was a double barrier road block about 200m south of the party HQ, A gap of 20 ? m filled with police etc, they would not let me through, so I had to use a few back street allyways to bypass it all.

Then there was a free to go area until about you get to the north side of the party HQ. Again I took a few back street alleys, I think I was even walking through someones house at one stage .
This meant I was again inside of the northern double barrier controlled area, and had to get through the barrier to get out , remembering I'm traveling north to PP.
This time I remembered the words of my late great uncle,,, Dress properly, head held high, chin out , shoulders back, chest out, tummy in , and walk with pride as if you are someone important.

I walked up to the barrier at the end , and a guy in military uniform stepped out of the way and waved me through.

Photoed at 9.15 am.

According to this video, many factories workers got stuck in the middle of the blocked road. They were not allowed to cross the barriers going to work at the factories which are about a stone throwing distance from the barriers. Many said, if they don't go to work today, their bosses will deduct their salary about 15 dollars a day for not going to work without a permission.

Barriers cannot stop those that do not want to be stopped.

I thought the monthly wage was like $148 or something. How can they deduct $15 per day? That would put the monthly wage at something like $300 assuming a 5 day work week.
penalty for not showing up perhaps?

just curious is all...

cheers
